Forget 2023. Focus on 2025 instead.
Most of us overestimate what we can do in 3 months and underestimate what we can do in 3 years.
I’ve seen and heard this phrase in few different capacities, and I’ve also experienced it working in my own life. Most of my major accomplishments were actually minor stepping stones on the way to even larger and later goals.
The funny thing is, even though many of those larger goals weren’t reached (or haven't been reached yet 😉), I often got farther than I would have if I had remained short sighted. Short sighted applies to both the scale of my goals as well as the time horizon to achieve them.
For example: My freshman year of high school I didn’t make our Varsity Cross Country team, being the 8th runner on a team of 7. I could have easily settled for just making the team the following year as my goal, but my sights were set on college running and beyond. At the time it didn’t really even seem realistic, and the major goal I set then of qualifying for the Olympic Marathon trials is yet to be achieved (😉)but I became a much better runner and endurance athlete because of that long term vision.
I’ll link a few great resources below, but to put this into action in your own life, do the following exercise:
